A Guide to the New York Flower Market

When I first moved to New York, I knew I wanted to visit the iconic New York City Flower District—but I was so intimidated!

I started my floral career in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Even though I worked for a floral company there for several years, I never actually shopped with them. I was always in the shop or on-site at venues. Honestly, I still wouldn’t even know where to buy flowers in Tulsa!

Before moving to New York, I had visited the Los Angeles Flower Market a few times just to look around. While the LA market is huge, it felt fairly straightforward: a detailed website with maps and floor plans, listed visitation hours, easy-to-find parking and admission info, and most vendors housed in just one or two buildings.

All that to say—the New York Flower Market felt like an entirely different experience! This was the first market I really dove into. Before my first visit, I Googled things like “how to shop at the New York flower market,” “where is the NY flower market,” and “is it open to the public?” I found a few helpful articles, but I still felt overwhelmed.

Thankfully, I was booked to freelance for an amazing florist who asked me to meet her at the market. I remember thinking, “All I have to do is get there!”

Now, six years later, 28th and 6th feels like a second home. I have my favorite shops, incredible vendors, accounts at all my go-to stores—and I run into flower friends every time I'm there.
